Mary Newton, MSN, FNP-BC

Mary Newton is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). She brings more than 18 years of nursing experience to the community with a background in Community Health, Preventive Health, Critical Care, Emergency Nursing, Hospice and Palliative Care, Nursing Education, and Primary Care.

She received an Associate Degree of Nursing from Richmond Community College and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of South Carolina. She continued her education at Queens University and obtained a Master’s in Nursing Health Care Administration. She received her Post-Master’s as a Family Nurse Practitioner from University of South Carolina. She is an active member of the American Nurses Association (ANA) and North Carolina Nurses Association (NCNA).

Prior to opening Highland Primary Care, Mary worked as a Nurse Practitioner in Family Practice and Internal Medicine in Scotland County. She worked at Richmond Community College teaching in the Associate Degree Nursing Program. She currently works for Scotland Regional Hospice and does contract work for the Veterans Administration.


Practice Philosophy:
Mary’s philosophy is to treat all patients she encounters as family. With her ability to exhibit excellent communication skills and her ability to build a rapport, she provides open communication with patients, families, and health-care team members. She strives to provide holistic care to her patients, while committing to meeting patient’s healthcare needs in a caring, respectful and professional manner.

Donna Edge Gibson, MSN, FNP-BC

Donna Edge Gibson is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). She brings more than 14 years of nursing experience to the community with a background in Emergency Nursing, Healthcare Quality, General Surgery, Hospice and Palliative Care, Nursing Education, and Primary Care.

She received an Associate Degree of Nursing from Richmond Community College and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. She continued her education at the University of South Alabama and obtained a Master’s in Nursing Administration and a post-master’s as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree at Grand Canyon University with a focus on diabetes management in the adult population. She is an active member of the American Nurses Association (ANA), North Carolina Nurses Association (NCNA), and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).

Prior to joining Highland Primary Care, Donna previously worked as a nurse practitioner in General Surgery and Internal Medicine in Scotland County. She currently works part-time for Scotland Regional Hospice and loves working within the community.

Donna is a native of Scotland County and lives within the community with her husband, Brian and three children. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and kayaking.

Practice Philosophy:
Through her experiences in nursing, Donna has seen the devastating effects of untreated chronic diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol. She believes that health promotion and disease prevention should be a primary focus in all patient care areas. She believes in partnering with her patients in a team concept to provide both education and support in enabling each patient to achieve their healthcare goals.

About Us

Kasey M. Crooms, CMA, AAMA

Kasey Crooms is a Certified Medical Assistant credentialed through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA). She has been working in the medical field for more than 10 years as a Certified Nursing Assistant with a background in geriatric care.

She received her Nursing Assistant Certification from Richmond Community College and she also received her Associate Degree in Applied Science (Medical Assisting) from Richmond Community College.

Prior to joining Highland Primary Care, Kasey previously worked as a Restorative Nursing Aid for Carolina Therapy Services and also as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Edwin Morgan Center until it closed.

Kasey is a native of Scotland County and lives within the community with her three daughters . She enjoys spending time with her family and attending church at Nazareth Missionary Baptist Church in Wagram, NC.

Practice Philosophy
Kasey believes that the patients are always the top priority and that each patient should be treated as if they are a part of our families. People can forget what you say to them, but they never forget how you make them feel. She strives to leave a lasting, loving effect on each and every patient that she comes in contact with.
